Dennis named RACA Player of the Year

GENEVA, N.Y.—William Smith College junior Sophie Dennis (Dana L. West/Port Byron, N.Y.) recently was named the Rochester Area College Athletics Field Hockey Player of the Year.
The 2005 Liberty League Player of the Year, Dennis led the conference in goals (22), assists (13), and points (57). Her points total is the second highest single season mark in Heron history. The two-time first-team All-American is William Smith’s career goals and points leader with 61 tallies and 25 helpers for 147 points. On Sept. 17, Dennis turned in a three-point (2-1) effort in a 5-1 win against Ramapo to become just the 10th Heron to eclipse the 100-point mark. She is also a three-time NFHCA All-North Atlantic selection.
William Smith completed the season with a 17-4 record, including a perfect 7-0 mark in conference action. The Herons won the Liberty League Championship and reached the NCAA Quarterfinals. One of the top field hockey program’s in the nation, William Smith made its 19th consecutive postseason appearance in 2005.
