GENEVA, N.Y.—William Smith College sophomore Sophie Dennis (Dana L. West/Port Byron, N.Y.) and junior Maggie Dolan (Towson/Towson, Md.) combined for a pair of goals to lead William Smith to a 3-0 victory over Skidmore in the Liberty League Field Hockey Semifinal this afternoon. The top-seeded Herons advance to the championship game against second-seeded St. Lawrence, who defeated RPI 3-0 in the second semifinal, on Nov. 7, at 1 p.m.

Dennis got the scoring started for William Smith just 3:35 into the game with a shot to the far post off a pass from Dolan. The Herons continued to pressure the Thoroughbreds goal as Dennis tallied her 18th goal of the year just seven minutes later tapping in another Dolan pass.

Senior midfielder Sarah Silverio (Radnor/Villanova, Pa.) made it a 3-0 game with 17:38 left in the half with her first goal of the season. The Herons controlled the play in the opening 35 minutes, outshooting fourth-seeded Skidmore 10-4.

The two teams played an even second half, as the Thoroughbreds fired six shots and had eight penalty corners but could not find the back of the cage. William Smith junior goalie Sue Jordan (Boothbay/Boothbay, Maine) was outstanding making five saves, including three on penalty corners.

The Herons held a 15-10 advantage on shots, while Skidmore earned 12 penalty corners to William Smith’s three. Jordan finished the game with seven stops, while Thoroughbred goalie Megan McAdams (Sewickley Academy/Caraopolis, Pa.) made seven saves as well.

Fifth-ranked William Smith and St. Lawrence will battle for the Liberty League Championship and the automatic NCAA Tournament bid tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m., on McCooey Field. The Herons beat the Saints 5-2 during the regular season.
