GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith field hockey team debuted at No. 7 in the first STX/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III Coaches Poll. Defending national champion Salisbury sits atop the poll with 36 of the 48 first place votes.

The Herons are 3-1 following a dominating 3-0 win at Oswego State on Sept. 10. William Smith’s lone blemish came against No. 3 Messiah on Sept. 3.

Offensively, the Herons are led by senior forward Maggie Dolan (Towson/Towson, Md.) and junior forward Sophie Dennis (Dana L. West/Port Byron, N.Y.). Dolan, the Liberty League Co-Offensive Performer of the Week, has a team-best four goals and eight points this season and ranks 16th on the career points list (66), while Dennis also boasts eight points (2-4) and is two points shy of becoming just the 10th Heron to record 100 career points.

Defensively, senior goalie Sue Jordan (Boothbay/Boothbay, Maine) has played all but eight minutes this season and sports a 1.80 goals against average and a .708 save percentage.

William Smith returns to action on Sept. 17 and Sept. 18, when the Herons host the annual William Smith Tournament on McCooey Field. The Herons will kick things off against Ramapo at 11 a.m. on Sept. 17, followed by St. Lawrence and Susquehanna at 2 p.m. On Sept. 18, Ramapo and St. Lawrence will tangle at 11 a.m., followed by William Smith and Susquehanna at 2 p.m. Admission to all four games is free.

Fans unable to make it to McCooey Field can follow all of the action online. The Athletic Communications Office provides free real-time statistics via the Herons' schedule page.
