GENEVA, N.Y.—Senior midfielder Amy Kuzio (Clinton/Clinton, N.Y.) registered three points to lead the seventh-ranked William Smith field hockey team to a 2-0 victory over Susquehanna this afternoon in the finale of the William Smith Tournament. The Herons bombarded the net with 17 shots, while the Crusaders (3-4-0) could only muster 6.

William Smith’s (5-1-0) first goal of the game was generated by a penalty corner in the 49th minute. Senior Lauren Fuller (Shaker/Loudonville, N.Y.) ripped a shot from the top of the circle, and Kuzio blasted the rebound past Susquehanna goalkeeper Lyndsay Meabon (Northern/Dillsburg, Pa.) for the game-winner. Meabon turned away four Herons’ offerings in the loss.

The Herons extended its lead at the 68:40 mark when junior Sophie Dennis (Dana L.West/Port Bryon, N.Y.) gathered a crossing pass from Kuzio and snipped her fifth goal of the season into the lower right corner.

That would be all the offense William Smith would need as the Herons’ defense stifled the Crusaders’ offensive attack. Senior goalkeeper Sue Jordan (Boothbay/Boothbay, Maine) made a pair of saves to register the win.

William Smith will begin Liberty League action on Sept. 24, when the Herons host Rensselaer at 4 p.m.
