September 11 , 2004
GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith College field hockey team got goals from five different players in a 6-0 blanking of Oswego State this afternoon on McCooey Field. Sophomore Sophie Dennis (Dana L. West/Port Byron, N.Y.) led all scorers with two goals.
Sophomore defender Liz Saucier (Old Town/Old Town, Maine) got things started for the Herons (2-1) early with her first goal of the season. Dennis tallied her fourth of 2004 just a little while later to make it a 2-0 game, while sophomore midfielder Brooke Atwood (Marathon Central/Marathon, N.Y.) knocked home a Maggie Dolan (Towson/Towson, Md.) pass to put William Smith ahead 3-0 at the break.
Dennis notched her second goal of the game shortly into the second half, tapping in a pass from the left side of the circle. Junior defender Lauren Fuller (Shaker/Loudonville, N.Y.) made it a 5-0 score, finishing a penalty corner midway through the session, while Amy Kuzio (Clinton/Clinton, N.Y.) closed out the scoring for the Herons with an unassisted goal.
The Herons outshot the Lakers (0-4) 38-4 and held a 13-4 advantage on penalty corners. Junior Sue Jordan (Boothbay/Boothbay, Maine) finished the afternoon with two saves for William Smith, while Kaitlin Daniels (Pierson/Sag Harbor, N.Y.) made 21 stops on the day.
The Herons will host the annual William Smith Invitation on Sept. 18-19. They will match up against Manhattanville on Sept. 18, at 11 a.m., and face off with Susquehanna the following afternoon at 2 p.m.
