William Smith to take on Salisbury in NCAA Semifinals

GENEVA, N.Y.—Advancing to the NCAA Division III Semifinal Round for the sixth time, the fifth-ranked William Smith College field hockey team will take on top-ranked Salisbury University on Nov. 19, at 2 p.m., at Westfield State College. Middlebury College will take on Messiah College in the second match at 5 p.m.

The Herons earned a spot in the semifinals after a dominating 5-1 victory over third-ranked Ursinus in the quarterfinal match on Sunday. Sophomore forward Sophie Dennis (Dana L. West/Port Byron, N.Y.) led the offense with her fourth career hat trick.
Pacing the William Smith attack all season has been Dennis and junior forward Maggie Dolan (Towson/Towson, Md.). Dennis leads the team with 22 goals and nine assists for 53 points, while Dolan has contributed 12 goals and nine assists for 33 points. Her 22 tallies and 53 points rank second behind Kimberly O’Gorman ’88 (30-7-67) on the Herons’ single season lists.
In goal, junior Sue Jordan (Boothbay/Boothbay, Maine) has posted eight shutouts and sports a 1.40 goals against average and .705 save percentage.
The 2003 national champion, Salisbury advanced to its eighth semifinal appearance with a 3-2 win over The College of New Jersey on Monday. The Sea Gulls (20-0) are led by junior forward Brittany Elliott (Delmar/Delmar, Delaware) with 22 goals and 12 assists for 56 points. Senior defender Erin Budd (Delmar/Delmar, Delaware) is second in scoring with 16 goals and 16 helpers.
In goal, first-year Maria Ramoundos (Highland/Gloucester, N.J.) has 11 shutouts and sports a 0.63 goals against average and a .769 save percentage. She has faced just 52 shots in 20 contests.
