Saucier collects Liberty League weekly honor

GENEVA, N.Y.—William Smith College sophomore Liz Saucier (Old Town/Old Town, Maine) was named the Liberty League Field Hockey Defensive Performer of the Week this afternoon. She helped lead the Herons to a 2-0 record at the annual William Smith Invitational this past weekend.
Saucier tallied a pair of goals, including a game-winner, and anchored a defense at the center back position that allowed just one goal for the weekend. Against 14th-ranked Manhattanville on Saturday, she notched two second-half scores to lead the Herons to a 3-1 win over the Valiants. The following afternoon she helped William Smith post its second shutout of the season in a 2-0 victory against Susquehanna.
Saucier is second on the team in scoring with three goals, including two game-winners, and is a key player on a defense that has allowed just one goal in its past three games.
Sporting a 4-1 overall record, William Smith opens Liberty League play this weekend, hosting St. Lawrence on Sept. 24, at 4 p.m., on McCooey Field.
