Scatton named NFHCA Regional Coach of the Year

GENEVA, N.Y.—William Smith field hockey coach Sally Scatton earned her fourth NFHCA Atlantic Regional Coach of the Year Award today. Scatton led the Herons to the 2004 NCAA Division III Semifinals, the program’s fifth under her leadership.
In 17 seasons, Scatton has led William Smith to the postseason in every year, including the NCAA Division III National Championship in 1992, 1997, and 2000. The Herons also won the 1999 ECAC Mid-Atlantic Championship.
Scatton led the 2004 Herons to another impressive season. William Smith began the season with victories in 17 of its first 18 games, including a perfect 7-0 mark in the Liberty League. The Herons finished the season 18-3 overall, raising Scatton’s record at William Simith to an impressive 278-75-3 (.785).
A four-time NFHCA Regional Coach of the year and a three-time National Coach of the year, Scatton has also been named the Liberty League Coach of the Year five times, including each of the last three years.
A 1975 graduate of Ithaca College, she played four years of field hockey and lacrosse and three years of basketball, earning the school’s Senior Woman Athlete of the Year award. In 1997, Scatton was inducted into the Ithaca College Sports Hall of Fame. She earned a master’s degree in education from Cortland in 1981.
