Heron hockey continues to climb poll

GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith field hockey team continues to climb in the Division III coaches poll. One week after debuting at No. 17, the Herons moved up to 14th in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association weekly survey.
William Smith sports a 6-1 record with the lone loss come at top-ranked Messiah. Following wins over St. Lawrence, 5-2, and Hamilton, 3-0, the Herons share the Liberty League lead with Rensselaer and Rochester.
Paced by sophomore Sophie Dennis (Dana L. West/Port Byron, N.Y.), William Smith boasts one of the most potent scoring offenses in the nation (3.29 gpg, 15th in DIII). Dennis leads the Liberty League and ranks 11th in the nation in scoring with 22 points (3.14 ppg). Junior Maggie Dolan (Towson/Towson, Md.) also ranks among the League leaders in points (4th, 1.43 ppg), goals (8th, 0.43 gpg), and assists (3rd, 0.57 apg).
Originally scheduled for Sept. 29, the Herons next game has been pushed back to Sept. 30. William Smith will host Rochester at 7 p.m. on McCooey Field.
