GENEVA, N.Y.—Three William Smith field hockey student-athletes were honored by the Liberty League this afternoon. Senior Sophie Dennis (Dana L. West/Port Byron, N.Y.), senior Liz Saucier (Old Town/Old Town, Maine), and first-year Kaitlyn Hamilton (Harpursville/Harpursville, N.Y.) earned the Co-Offensive Performer of the Week, Co-Defensive Performer of the Week, and Rookie of the Week awards, respectively.

Dennis, who boasts three Liberty League Offensive Performer of the Week awards this season, continues to distance herself from the rest of the Liberty League in the scoring column, adding four goals and two assists in a 2-0 conference weekend for the Herons. She had a hand in four of William Smith’s six goals against Hamilton on Friday. Dennis scored twice and set up two others in the 6-1 win. The following afternoon against St. Lawrence, she scored the first two goals of a 6-0 shutout of the Saints.

Dennis raised her season totals to 12 goals, eight assists, and 32 points, all of which lead the League. She is on pace to crush the William Smith single season points record, and currently boasts more points than two entire teams in the League (Hamilton 16, Union 24).

Saucier was a key component in the Heron defense that limited the opposition to just a single goal this weekend, and, at the other end of the field, she chipped in two goals and four assists. She had a hand in William Smith’s first three goals against Hamilton, assisting on two and scoring what proved to be the game-winner. Defensively, Saucier and the Heron defense limited the Continentals to just five shots and one goal. The following afternoon, she again contributed a goal and two assists, as the Herons blanked St. Lawrence, limiting the visitors to just three shots on goal.

For the season, Saucier is second in the League in assists and points and third in goals, trailing only her own teammates in those categories.

Hamilton remained atop the rookie scoring race with five points. Against the Continentals, she scored just 28 seconds into the match. The following afternoon, Hamilton notched a goal and an assist against the Saints.

Overall, Hamilton is fifth in the conference with 12 points (4-4).

William Smith (6-1, 2-0) will play game No. 6 of its current eight-game homestand on Sept. 27, when the Herons host Rochester in a Liberty League match up scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. on McCooey Field.
