ESPN The Magazine Academic All-
District second-team pick Sophie Dennis

GENEVA, N.Y.—William Smith field hockey forward Sophie Dennis (Dana L. West/Port Byron, N.Y.) was named to the ESPN The Magazine At-Large Academic All-District second team. The career leader in goals and points for the Herons is a sports in society major with a minor in economics.
A two-time NFHCA All-American, Dennis led the Liberty League with 22 goals and 13 assists for 57 points this season. She led William Smith to a 17-4 overall record, the Liberty League regular season and tournament championships. In each of the past three seasons, Dennis has been named to the NFHCA All-Region, NYSWCAA All-State, and All-Liberty League teams. The 2005 Liberty League Player of the Year, she was the 2003 conference Rookie of the Year.
Dennis’ prowess in the classroom has earned her two trips to the NFHCA National Academic Squad and a pair of Liberty League All-Academic nods. She is a Helen Heath Scholar and a Dean’s List student.
At the annual William Smith Athletics Awards Banquet, Dennis received the Susan Bassett Award for excellence in academics, athletics, and leadership as well as the Charles P. Boswell II ’50 Field Hockey Award as team's most outstanding player.
CoSIDA selects Academic All-District and Academic All-America teams in 12 programs: football, women’s volleyball, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, baseball, softball, men’s track & field/cross country, women’s track & field/cross country, men’s at-large and women’s at-large.
