GENEVA, N.Y.—William Smith senior forward Sophie Dennis (Dana L. West/Port Byron, N.Y.) and sophomore goalie Katie DeKraker (Staples/Westport, Conn.) were honored by the Liberty League this afternoon. Dennis was named the Field Hockey Offensive Performer of the Week for the fourth consecutive week, while DeKraker was the Field Hockey Co-Defensive Performer of the Week.

Dennis scored three goals and handed out four assists to lead the Herons to their seventh and eighth consecutive wins. Against Rochester on Wednesday night, she assisted on what proved to be the game-winner and scored an insurance goal to lift William Smith to a 2-0 Liberty League win. Two nights later, Dennis came within a single assist of tying two school records. She earned an assist on each of William Smith’s first three goals and scored a pair of second half goals in a 7-2 rout of Elmira. The Heron single game record for assists is four and Dennis raised her career total to 37, one off the career mark.

Dennis leads the Liberty League with 42 points, more than double the next player in the conference rankings, classmate Liz Saucier (19 pts).

DeKraker picked up a pair of victories in 129 minutes of action, sporting a 0.54 goals against average and an .833 save percentage last week. She earned her second shutout of the year on Wednesday night, stopping four Rochester shots, including a one-on-one Yellowjackets’ breakaway. Against Elmira, she played sixty minutes and made one save.

For the season, DeKraker is 8-1 with a 1.03 goals against average (2nd in the Liberty League) and a .719 save percentage.

William Smith (8-1) will put its eight-game winning streak on the line on Oct. 3, when the Herons host Ithaca College. The match is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. on McCooey Field.
