Liberty League Co-Offensive Performer

GENEVA, N.Y.—Two William Smith field hockey players earned weekly honors from the Liberty League this afternoon. Senior forward Sophie Dennis (Dana L. West/Port Byron, N.Y.) and first-year forward Kaitlyn Hamilton (Harpursville/Harpursville, N.Y.) were named the Co-Offensive Performer of the Week and the Co-Rookie of the Week, respectively.
In a 2-0 week for the Herons, Dennis recorded 10 points on four goals and two assists. At Geneseo, she sandwiched a pair of assists around a goal as William Smith knocked off the Blue Knights 4-1. At home against Oswego, Dennis notched her sixth career hat trick in a 5-1 win over the Lakers. This week, she became the first Heron to record 160 career points (66-28).
The reigning Liberty League scoring champion (22-13-57 in 2005), Dennis leads the conference in goals (5) and points (13) and is tied for the lead in assists (3).
Hamilton recorded two assists last week, both on game-winning goals. At Geneseo, she set up Ashley Barker’s game-winner in the 27th minute and, at home against Oswego, she assisted on Dennis’ winner in the 24th minute. Through three games, she leads her classmates and is third on the team in points (1-2-4).
William Smith (2-1) returns to action on Sept. 16, when the Herons host Ramapo at 11 a.m. The game is the first of the annual William Smith Tournament. St. Lawrence and Susquehanna will battle in the second game at 2 p.m. On Sept. 17, the Saints and the Roadrunners will square off at 11 a.m., with the Herons taking on the Crusaders at 2 p.m.
