GENEVA, N.Y.—William Smith College senior Sophie Dennis (Dana L. West/Port Byron, N.Y.) and first-year Kaitlyn Hamilton (Harpursville/Harpursville, N.Y.) were recently honored by womensfieldhockey.com. Dennis was named a first team All-American, while Hamilton was named to the All-Rookie Squad. Together they helped lead the Herons to the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Tournament and the program’s fourth consecutive Liberty League Championship.

A three-time National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-American, Dennis holds the William Smith records for career goals (89), assists (39), and points (217). She also holds the record for points in a season with 70. After leading the Herons to a successful 18-4 mark this fall, Dennis was named the ECAC Division III Player of the Year, and was tabbed the Liberty League Player of the Year for the second straight season. A standout from the start, she is a four-time NFHCA All-Region selection, a three-time All-State selection, and four-time all-league pick. She ranks in the top 10 in Division III scoring history, and was third in the nation in points per game this season with 3.18.

The Liberty League Rookie of the Year, Hamilton earned NFHCA All-Region second team accolades after tallying 13 goals and six assists. She broke the William Smith record for points in a game (9) after netting four goals and adding an assist in an 8-1 rout of Nazareth on Oct. 27. In the effort, Hamilton also tied the single game record for most goals in a game, and most goals in a game by a first-year. She collected weekly honors from the Liberty League three times this season. The second-team All-Liberty League pick finished fourth in the conference in points (32).
