Dennis honored by ECAC

GENEVA, N.Y.—William Smith senior forward Sophie Dennis (Dana L. West/Port Byron, N.Y.) was named the ECAC Division III Field Hockey Player of the Week this afternoon. Earlier this week, she was named the Liberty League Co-Performer of the Week.

William Smith’s all-time leader in goals and points continued to put distance between herself and her fellow Herons, scoring four goals and two assists in two games last week. Dennis opened the week with a goal and two assists in a 4-1 win at Geneseo. On Saturday at home against Oswego, she recorded her sixth career hat trick to lead William Smith to a 5-1 victory.

Through three games, Dennis leads the Liberty League in goals (5) and points (13) and is tied for the conference lead in assists (3). In 65 career games, she has 66 goals and 28 assists for 160 points.

William Smith (2-1) returns to action on Sept. 16, when the 12th-ranked Herons host Ramapo at 11 a.m. on McCooey Field. The match is the first of the annual William Smith Tournament. St. Lawrence and Susquehanna will battle in the second match at 2 p.m.

On Sept. 17, the Saints and the Roadrunners will square off at 11 a.m., with the Herons taking on the Crusaders at 2 p.m.
