Flowers joins William Smith field hockey staff

September 15, 2006

GENEVA, N.Y.—William Smith College Athletic Director Deb Steward recently announced the appointment of Katie Flowers to serve as an assistant coach to the Herons’ field hockey team. Flowers will assist mainly with goalkeeper training.

“We are thrilled to have someone with Katie’s expertise join our program,” said Head Coach Sally Scatton. “She’s a wonderful addition to our program.”

Flowers works full time as the Colleges’ assistant director of public services, where she recruits, trains, and places tutors at elementary schools in the surrounding community.

A 2000 graduate of Stonehill College in Easton, Mass., Flowers played both field hockey and lacrosse for the Skyhawks. She is a founding member of the Stonehill lacrosse team, which went on to become NCAA Division II champions in 2003 and 2005. While at Stonehill, Flowers earned a bachelor’s degree in communication and business administration.

Flowers took her lacrosse knowledge to Holy Cross for the 2001 season, where she served as an assistant coach and worked as an AmeriCorps Volunteer in Service to America.

The Nashua, N.H., native went on to earn a master’s degree in education from the University at Buffalo in 2004. At Buffalo, Flowers served as a graduate assistant for Community Service Coordination and for the Leadership Development Center.

Flowers resides in Geneva, and is very involved in the community as a lacrosse coach for the Geneva Boys and Girls Club Summer Camp, and as a member of the Junior League of Rochester.
