GENEVA, N.Y.—William Smith College first-year Kaitlyn Hamilton (Harpursville/Harpursville, N.Y.) was named the Liberty League Field Hockey Offensive Performer of the Week today. The forward’s record-breaking afternoon led the Herons to an 8-1 victory over Nazareth on Oct. 27.
Hamilton broke the William Smith game record for points with nine against the Golden Flyers. She scored four goals, tying the Heron record for goals in a game (shared by six players), and added an assist. Hamilton also tied the record for most goals in a game by a first-year, a mark established by Bettie Bair ’80 and matched by Kelly Martin ’84.
Hamilton has 11 goals and six assists this season for 28 points. Her scoring outburst at Nazareth catapulted her from fifth on the team in scoring to second. In the Liberty League, she leads all first-years goals, assists, and points, while overall, she ranks third in goals and points and is tied for eighth in assists.
As the top-seed, William Smith will host the Liberty League Field Hockey Championship Tournament on Nov. 3-4. On Friday, the Herons (14-3) will face No. 4 Rensselaer (9-9) at 11 a.m., followed by No. 2 St. Lawrence (10-5) vs. No. 3 Skidmore (12-5) at 1:30 p.m. The winners will meet in the championship match at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
