GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith field hockey team moved up one spot in the latest edition of the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III Coaches Poll. The Herons moved up to No. 11 after a pair of convincing wins in the William Smith Field Hockey Classic over the weekend.
On Saturday, William Smith dispatched Ramapo 5-1. Senior Sophie Dennis (Port Byron, N.Y.) had a hand in all five goals, tying the school record for points in a game with eight (3-2). The following afternoon, senior Liz Saucier (Old Town/Old Town, Maine) registered a pair of goals as the Herons blanked Susquehanna 5-0.
William Smith (4-1) has three remaining games against ranked opponents, Oct. 11 at No. 5 Cortland, Oct. 14 vs. No. 10 Lebanon Valley, and Oct. 20 at Skidmore. The Herons’ lone loss came against second-ranked Messiah in the season opener.
