SCHENECTADY, N.Y.—The William Smith field hockey team defeated Union College 3-2 this afternoon. The Herons improve to 13-3 overall and 6-1 in Liberty League action, while the Dutchwomen drop to 9-6 and 3-4 in the league.
The Herons took a 3-0 lead with three first-half goals, then held on for the win as Union rallied to score two goals in the second half. Senior Brook Atwood (Marathon/Marathon, N.Y.) led the Herons with a goal and an assist, while first-years Kaitlyn Hamilton (Harpursville/Harpursville, N.Y.) and Sarah Palmer (Friends School/Baltimore, Md.) each added a goal.
Sophomore goalkeeper Katie DeKraker (Staples/West Port, Conn.) tallied six saves for the Herons.
William Smith will close out its regular season schedule on Oct. 27 when it travels to Nazareth for a game at 4 p.m.
