GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith field hockey team defeated Ramapo College 5-1 in the first game of the Heron Field Hockey Classic this morning. The 12th-ranked Herons improve to 3-1, while the Roadrunners drop to 3-2.
Leading the way for William Smith was senior forward Sophie Dennis (Dana L. West/Port Byron, N.Y.) with three goals and two assists. Classmates Brooke Atwood (Marathon/Marathon, N.Y.) and Liz Saucier (Old Town/Old Town, Maine) each tallied a goal and an assist, while first-year Kaitlyn Hamilton (Harpursville/Harpursville, N.Y.) added an assist.
Junior Devin Flynn (Kingsway Regional/Mullica Hill, N.J.) scored the lone goal for the Roadrunners, off an assist from sophomore Kelly Nolan (Manasquan/Spring Lake Heights, N.J.).
Sophomore goalkeeper Katie DeKraker (Staples/Westport, Conn.) registered one save for the Herons, while first-year Jenna Feminello (Arthur L. Johnson/Clark, N.J.) made 11 stops for the Roadrunners.
Ramapo and St. Lawrence will meet at on McCooey Field at 11 a.m.
