GENEVA, N.Y.—William Smith senior field hockey player Sophie Dennis (Dana L. West/Port Byron, N.Y.) was presented with the Charles P. Boswell II ’50 Field Hockey Award, while sophomore Leila Higgins (Groton School/Peapack, N.J.) was presented with the Beverly Singer ’74 Field Hockey Coach’s Award, at the Annual William Smith Athletics Awards Banquet on May 1.

A three-time first-team All-American, Dennis is William Smith’s all-time leading scorer with 89 goals and 39 assists. She also holds the record for most points in a season with 70, recorded in 2006, and was named the Liberty League Player of the Year twice. Additionally, Dennis was named the Rochester Area College Athletics Field Hockey Player of the Year three times, and has earned the Division III ECAC Player of the Year twice. She was also the recipient of the prestigious Winn-Seeley Award at the banquet.

A defender, Higgins has played in 39 of a possible 43 games over her first two seasons. This fall, she helped lead a stingy defense that allowed just 28 goals all season, and recorded four shutouts.

In addition to Dennis, senior Liz Saucier (Old Town/Old Town, Maine) and first-year Kaitlyn Hamilton (Harpursville/Harpursville, N.Y.) also received department awards. Saucier was presented the Marion Harrison Greene ’20 Award, which goes to an outstanding senior athlete, while Hamilton was honored with the Stephanie Christie Award, presented to an outstanding first-year athlete.
