Herons climb to No. 2 in NFHCA Poll

October 9, 2001

GENEVA, N.Y.--The William Smith field hockey team jumped three spots to No. 2 in the latest National Field Hockey Coaches Association poll. The Herons were 3-0 last week, extending their winning streak to eight games.

William Smith defeated Ithaca College on the road 3-1 on Oct. 3. The Herons then swept past No. 12 St. Lawrence University and Hamilton College by 2-1 and 4-0 scores, respectively. Senior forward Jackie Hall (Berkshire School/Newport, R.I.) recorded three goals and two assists over the three-game span to become just the eight Heron to reach 100 points in her career. The performance earned her the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association's Player of the Week award. Senior midfielder Nicky Livingston (Whitney Point/Whitney Point, N.Y.) is just one assist shy of tying William Smith career assists leader Melissa Crowley '90. Livingston has 32 career assists and already holds the school's single season assists record with 15 in 2000.

William Smith (10-2, 5-0 UCAA) will host No. 3 SUNY-Cortland on Oct. 10, at 4 p.m. The teams last met in an NCAA Tournament classic with the Herons edging the Red Dragons 3-2 on penalty strokes.
