Herons No. 4 in NFHCA Poll

September 25, 2001

GENEVA, N.Y.--The William Smith field hockey team is ranked No. 4 in the latest National Field Hockey Coaches Association poll. The Herons dropped two spots from the previous poll despite putting together a four-game win streak.

William Smith was 3-0 last week, defeating SUNY-Brockport 1-0, Union College 3-2, and Skidmore College 2-1 in overtime. Sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Kulesa (Garden City/Garden City, N.Y.) backstopped the Herons to all three wins. Against No. 9 Skidmore on Sept. 22, senior midfielder Nicky Livingston (Whitney Point/Whitney Point, N.Y.) assisted on the game-tying goal making her just the seventh Heron to reach 100 points in a career. The senior needs just four assists to set a new school mark for career assists. Senior forward Jackie Hall (Berkshire School/New Port, R.I.) scored the game-winning goal against the Thoroughbreds to give her 96 career points. The goal was the 41st of her career, just two shy of fifth place on William Smith's all-time goals scored list.

The Herons (6-2, 2-0 UCAA) travel to the University of Rochester on Sept. 27, to take on the Yellowjacket at 5 p.m. William Smith shutout Rochester 7-0 in Geneva last season.
