GENEVA, N.Y.—Five members of the William Smith College field hockey team recently were named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-North Atlantic Region teams, including three first-team selections. Senior forward Sheila McKevitt (Clinton/Clinton, N.Y.), senior midfielder Erin Weir (Blair Academy/Califon, N.J.), and junior goalie Jessica Kulesa (Garden City/Garden City, N.Y.) received first-team accolades, while senior defenders Brigid Lynch (Manhasset/Manhasset, N.Y.) and Neely Wakeman (Holderness School/Cohasset, Mass.) earned second-team honors.

One of the most prolific goal scorers in school history, McKevitt led William Smith with 14 tallies this season, and ranks fifth in career goals with 43. She became just the ninth Heron to record 100 career points with a goal and an assist at Nazareth on Nov. 2. She completed her career tied for seventh in points with 104. A 2001 first-team NFHCA All-Region selection, McKevitt was selected to play in the annual NFHCA North-South Senior All-Star Game and was named the 2002 Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association (UCAA) Player of the Year.

Weir registered 13 of her 15 points this year on assists. She was just two helpers shy of the William Smith single season record. A 2001 second-team All-Region selection, she scored the game winning goal in the 2000 national championship game. Weir also was selected to play in the North-South game.

Kulesa recorded 99 saves this season, posting a 14-7 record, including five shutouts. She has a 1.30 goals against average and a .786 save percentage. She turned in her most impressive performance of the season on Oct. 16, at then third-ranked Cortland. Kulesa turned back all 13 shots the Red Dragons sent her way for a 2-0 shutout.

An exceptional defender, Lynch started all 18 games for William Smith, scoring four goals and assisting on another, while helping to limit the opposition to just 22 goals this season. She was named to the All-UCAA second-team and the All-Region second-team a year ago.

Another talented backliner, Wakeman proved to be an important part of the Heron offense this season. She began the year with just four goals in 28 career games. This season she recorded career-highs in goals (11) and assists (10) and trailed only McKevitt in points (34). Wakeman was named the UCAA Player of the Week on Sept. 29 after scoring four goals and assisting on three others in three games.

William Smith completed the season with a 14-7 record including a 5-2 mark in the league.
