6th Annual Great Heron 5k Road Race successful

GENEVA, N.Y.—The 6th annual Great Heron 5k Road Race was held this morning, beginning at Boswell Field on the Hobart and William Smith Colleges campus. All proceeds benefited the fight against breast cancer.

Yimin Wu, 33, of Geneva, N.Y. took first place of 274 runners, completing the course in 17:45.16, while Hobart senior cross country runner, Scott Thoms (Brooks School/West Chatham, Mass.) grabbed the second spot finishing the race in 18:07.62.

The first female finisher was Ann Messenger, 26, of Hilton, N.Y. Her 5k time of 20:11.66 was good for 20th place overall. The oldest competitor was George Tillson, 75, covering the 3.1 miles in 56:00.35.

Awards were presented to both male and female overall and age group winners. The 7th annual Great Heron Road Race will take place on Saturday, April 10, 2004.
