GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith College field hockey team shutout visiting Ithaca College this evening at the AstroTurf Stadium, 3-0. Senior back Neely Wakeman (Holderness School/Cohasset, Mass.) led the charge with a goal and an assist to raise her team-leading point total to 22 (8-6).

The Herons (7-4) solved the Bombers (4-6) defense just over 10 minutes into the contest when senior midfielder Brigid Lynch (Manhasset/Manhasset, N.Y.) blasted home a shot from the top of the circle. Senior midfielder Erin Weir (Blair Academy/Califon, N.J.) and Wakeman earned assists on the penalty corner play.

First-year midfielder Amy Kuzio (Clinton/Clinton, N.Y.) doubled William Smith’s advantage with her first collegiate goal on a scramble in front of the Ithaca cage at the 23:46 mark. Two minutes later, Wakeman closed out the scoring by redirecting a shot by sophomore forward Sarah Silverio (Radnor/Villanova, Pa.).

The Herons completely dominated the contest, outshooting the Bombers 11-1 and holding an 18-8 advantage on penalty corners.

In goal, junior Jessica Kulesa (Garden City/Garden City, N.Y.) was called on to make just a single save for her second shutout of the season. First-year Nicole Blum (George School/Greensburg, Pa.) recorded three saves for Ithaca.

William Smith will take to the road for its next two contests. The Herons will visit Skidmore at 7 p.m., on Oct. 11, and Union the following evening at 5 p.m.
