Herons blank Crusaders, 1-0

September 15, 2001

GENEVA, N.Y.--The William Smith College field hockey team picked up a 1-0 victory over visiting Susquehanna University today. The Herons lone goal came from senior Nicky Livingston (Whitney Point/Whitney Point, N.Y.), who moved to within a single point of becoming the seventh William Smith field hockey player to record 100 career points.

Livingston notched her third goal of the season with 18:53 remaining in the first half. She now has 35 career goals and 29 career assists for 99 points.

The game was much more lopsided than the final score revealed. The Herons (3-2) outshot the Crusaders (3-3) 18-2 and held a 10-6 advantage in penalty corners. Susquehanna benefited from the strong play of goalie Kylie Cook, who turned aside 17 shots including a first half penalty stroke.

William Smith sophomore Jessica Kulesa (Garden City/Garden City, N.Y.) made two saves to earn the shutout in her first collegiate start.
