Kulesa, Desforges earn UCAA honors

October 1, 2001

GENEVA, N.Y.--For the second week in a row William Smith field hockey player Jessica Kulesa (Garden City/Garden City, N.Y.) is the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association's Goaltender of the Week, while first-year back Lea Desforges (Woodstock Union/Stockbridge, Vt.) earns her first Rookie of the Week award. The duo helped the Herons to their fifth straight win against the University of Rochester on Sept. 26.

Kulesa recorded her third shutout of the year in William Smith's 3-0 victory over the Yellowjackets. The goalie is 5-0 on the year with a goals against average of 0.85 and a save percentage of .868.

Desforges is part of a Heron defensive unit that has recorded four shutouts and is allowing just 1.21 goals per game. Against Rochester, the first-year played a key role in limiting the Yellowjackets to just one shot. Deforges leads the team in defensive saves this season, with two.

William Smith (7-2, 3-0 UCAA) travels to Ithaca on Oct. 2, to take on the Bombers at 4 p.m. The Herons shutout Ithaca, 4-0, in Geneva last season.
