Kulesa named UCAA Defender of the Week

GENEVA, N.Y.—William Smith College field hockey goalie Jessica Kulesa (Garden City/Garden City, N.Y.) was named the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association Defender of the Week, for the week ending Sept. 21. The senior did not allow a goal in 116 minutes over the weekend, as the Herons posted a pair of shutout wins in the William Smith Invitational.
Against Manhattanville, Kulesa turned aside three shots in just over 54 minutes, as the Herons recorded a 5-0 victory. The following afternoon she recorded a pair of saves in nearly 62 minutes as No. 18 William Smith blanked No. 20 Susquehanna, 3-0.
Through five games this season, Kulesa sports the second best goals against average in the UCAA (0.85), an .862 save percentage, a 3-2 record. In 45 career games, she has a 29-11 record with a 1.10 goals against average and an .834 save percentage.
The Herons return to action at 4 p.m., on Sept. 26, at St. Lawrence University in the league opener for both teams.
