GENEVA, N.Y.--The William Smith College field hockey team picked up its second win of the season in impressive fashion, dispatching visiting Geneseo, 5-0. Senior Nicky Livingston (Whitney Point/Whitney Point, N.Y.) led the charge with a pair of goals.

The first half gave no hint of the offensive explosion on the horizon. Geneseo matched William Smith shot for shot in the opening 35 minutes, but senior goalie Marjie MacVean (Johnstown/Johnstown, N.Y.) turned aside all three Knights' shots.

Senior Jackie Hall (Berkshire School/Newport, R.I.) provided the Herons (2-1) with all the offense they would need, knocking home a drive by junior Shelia McKevitt (Clinton/Clinton, N.Y.) 13 minutes before halftime.

After the break, William Smith showed the dominance of a defending national champion. The Herons outshot their guest 7-1, converting four into goals. Junior Erin Weir (Blair Academy/Califon, N.J.) added the first insurance goal five minutes into the second stanza. Livingston doubled the lead with back-to-back goals at 21:56 and 14:33. Junior Neely Wakeman(Holderness School/Cohasset, Mass.) added the final tally, thanks to a setup by McKevitt.

MacVean and sophomore Jessica Skovron (Exeter/Exeter, N.H.) combined for the team's first shutout of the season, while Sue McNeil made three saves for Geneseo.

Both Livingston and Hall are within striking distance of 100 career points, a feat only six other Herons have accomplished in the program's 31 seasons. Livingston needs to add three points to her 34 goals and 29 assists, while Hall needs six points to go with her 40 goals and 14 assists. If both players reach the plateau this season, it would mark the first time Heron teammates have reached 100 points in the same season.

William Smith will be back in action at 1 p.m., on Sat., Sept. 8, at Lock Haven.
