McKevitt named Female Athlete of the Week

GENEVA, N.Y.—William Smith senior Sheila McKevitt(Clinton/Clinton, N.Y.) earned Rochester Area College Athletics (RACA) Female Athlete of the Week honors for her stellar play in the Herons 2-1 double overtime victory over the University of Rochester. The field hockey forward had a hand in both goals to lead William Smith to its sixth win of the season.
With the Herons (6-4, 2-1 in UCAA) trailing by a goal in the second half, McKevitt blasted home a shot to tie the game and force overtime. Then in the 88th minute of play, she ripped another shot toward the goal that was tipped in by senior Neely Wakeman (Holderness School/Cohasset, Mass.) for the game winner. That goal gave her 35 career goals, which is ninth all time, while her assist boosted her to 14, 14th all time. McKevitt has racked up a total of 84 career points, making her ninth all time in William Smith field hockey.
The Herons resume play tonight, hosting Ithaca College in a 7 p.m., match. William Smith will resume UCAA play when it travels to Skidmore on Oct. 11, for a 7 p.m., start and Union on Oct. 12, at 5 p.m.
