GENEVA, N.Y.—William Smith College senior forward Sheila McKevitt (Clinton/Clinton, N.Y.) has been named the National Division III Player of the Week by womensfieldhockey.com. The Herons knocked off a pair of top-10 teams last week and jumped from 18th to 13th in the latest NFHCA Coaches Poll.

At then No. 3 Cortland, McKevitt scored the game-winner in a 2-0 victory over the defending national champion Red Dragons. Three days, later the Herons returned home to face eighth-ranked Lebanon Valley College, and again McKevitt worked her magic, scoring the game-winner and assisting on an insurance goal in a 3-1 win.

McKevitt leads the team in goals and ranks second in points with 10 goals and three assists for 23 points. For her career, she is ninth all-time in goals (39) and points (93), and tied for 11th in assists (15). With three regular season games remaining and the possibility of postseason play, McKevitt is attempting to become just the ninth Heron to record 100 career points.

William Smith boasts a 10-5 overall record, including a 3-2 mark in the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association. Currently in fourth place in the UCAA, the Herons need a victory in one of their two remaining home games to clinch a spot in the UCAA Championship Tournament. William Smith will have its first shot at securing a spot in the league tournament on Oct. 25, when fifth place Hamilton College visits Geneva. The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m., at AstroTurf Stadium.
