2 Herons named to NFHCA Academic Squad

GENEVA, N.Y. – Two William Smith College field hockey players were recently named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III National Academic Squad. Junior forwards Sheila McKevitt (Clinton/Clinton, N.Y.) and Eryn Apanovitch (Pomperaug/Middlebury, Conn.) represent the Herons on the team for the second straight year.

McKevitt was William Smith’s second-leading scorer this season with 10 goals and four assists for 24 points. The junior was a NFHCA first-team Regional All-American, as well as a member of the All-NYSWCAA and All-UCAA second-teams. McKevitt ranks 12th among Herons in career goals (29), 18th in career assists (12), and 13th in career points (70).

Apanovitch played in all 18 of William Smith’s games this season and in 36 of 39 over the past two years. She was part of a Heron offense that outscored opponents 45-21 this season. Apanovitch has two goals and three assists for seven points in her career.

The student-athletes named to the academic squad must have attained a minimum grade point average of 3.30 through the fall semester and be a starter or key reserve on their team.

William Smith was 14-4 this season, winning the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Conference for the second straight year with a 7-0 record and advancing to the NCAA Quarterfinals.
