Scatton adds Standring to coaching staff

Heather Standring

August 8, 2003

GENEVA, N.Y.—William Smith College Field Hockey Head Coach Sally Scatton recently announced the hiring of Heather Standring to serve as the Herons’ assistant coach for the 2003 season. Standring joins the William Smith coaching staff following a year as an assistant coach for field hockey and softball at Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

“I’m thrilled to have Heather joining us this season,” Scatton said. “Her experience playing at Trinity for some of the finest coaches in Division III, as well as her time coaching at WPI make her a wonderful addition to our team.”

A 2002 graduate of Trinity (Conn.) College with a bachelor’s degree in English, Standring was a four-year member of the Bantams’ field hockey team. A three-year starter at forward, she completed her career with 13 goals and three assists. Standring served the Bantams as team captain during her senior season.

She also played two seasons on the Trinity softball team.

A native of Spencer, Mass., Standring will assist Scatton with all aspects of the field hockey program. The three-time National Champion Herons (1992, ’97, 2000) return 15 letterwinners, including five starters, from last season’s 14-7 squad that earned the top seed in the ECAC Mid-Atlantic Region Tournament. William Smith kicks off the 2003 campaign at 7 p.m., on Sept. 2, against Geneseo under the lights of McCooey Field.
