GENEVA, N.Y.—William Smith College Golf Head Coach Jeff Pulli recently resigned to focus on his full-time job as the club professional at Clifton Springs Country Club and his family. He and his wife are expecting their first child next month.

William Smith Athletic Director Deb Steward appointed Michelle Walsh to serve as the interim head coach for the spring season.

“Coach Pulli was an integral part of the implementation and growth of William Smith golf,” Steward said. “We are extremely thankful for the time he dedicated to the Herons.”

Pulli was named the program’s head coach in 2003, just prior to its first varsity season. Under his guidance William Smith earned its first win as a program, a dual match victory over Nazareth in 2004, and turned in its best tournament finish in 2005, taking second in the Elmira Invitational.

Walsh is in her first year as an assistant coach of the William Smith basketball team. She is an avid golfer and taught golf classes at Smith College prior to accepting her current position at William Smith. She earned her bachelor’s degree in engineering from Swarthmore College in 1998, and completed a master’s degree in exercise and sport studies from Smith in 2006.

“This is a great opportunity for Coach Walsh and the Heron golf team as we continue to expand the program with practice and competition in the spring,” Steward said. “She has excellent teaching skills and will be a tremendous asset in the recruiting process.”
