GENEVA, N.Y.—Two William Smith College golfers were recognized at the Annual William Smith Athletics Awards Banquet on May 1. Sophomore Nickie Calandra (Camden/Blossvale, N.Y.) and junior Katie Wood (Holland Patent/Stittville, N.Y.) were both honored.

Calandra was awarded the Most Valuable Golfer award, while Wood earned the Golf Coach’s Award from Interim Head Coach Michelle Walsh.

The top golfer on the team, Calandra competed in all five events this season. She played eight rounds, and recorded season-low score of 84 in the first round of the Nazareth Tournament in April. She also registered one top-five finish, and led the team in scoring average (89.0).

Wood will be the first Heron golfer to play all four years of her career, and has helped the young program grow along the way. A captain, she exhibits exceptional leadership and poise, and has earned her teammates’ respect. Wood works hard and plays a valuable role on the team as its No. 4 golfer.
