CLIFTON SPRINGS, N.Y.--The William Smith College golf team broke several records en route to a third place finish in the New York State Women's Collegiate Athletic Association at the par-72 Clifton Springs Country Club. The Herons' two-day score of 769 was the lowest two day score for the two-year old program.

The second annual event was won by defending champion St. Lawrence, while second place Cortland's Jenna Chamberlain was the individual medalist after carding back-to-back rounds of 82. Vassar finished fourth followed by Nazareth.

The Herons were tied for second with Cortland after the first round thanks to the team's lowest single round score of 379. First-year Nikki Calandra (Camden/Blossvale, N.Y.) led the way with the lowest single round score by a William Smith golfer, an 83.

This afternoon, Calandra completed the lowest two round score by a Heron, carding a 90 for a total of 173. She finished fourth overall.

Classmate Lauren Zeitler (Sayville/Sayville, N.Y.) was one stroke behind Calandra in fifth place thanks to rounds of 90 and 84.

William Smith's third place finish is up one spot from last season, when the Herons also hosted this event.
