Coffin leads Herons to victory

IRONDEQUOIT, N.Y.--The William Smith golf team earned its first dual match victory this afternoon and in the process split a home-home series with Nazareth. The Herons, led by senior Sarah Coffin's (St. George's/Bryn Mawr, Pa.) 48, out-dualed the host Golden Flyers 206-221.
Played on the par 36 front nine at Irondequoit Country Club, Coffin was one of three Herons to card a sub-50 score, along with matching 49s from sophomore Maureen Hannan (Christian Brothers Academy/Syracuse, N.Y.) and junior Val Dolan (Notre Dame Academy/Greenbush, Mass.).
Four days ago, Nazareth defeated the Herons 200-211 on the front nine at the Clifton Springs Country Club.
William Smith returns to action for the final time this fall on Oct. 9-10, when the Herons host the inaugural New York State Women's Collegiate Athletic Association Championships at the Clifton Springs Country Club.
