St. Lawrence wins inaugural NYSWCAA golf championship

GENEVA, N.Y.—William Smith hosted the inaugural New York State Women’s Collegiate Athletic Association Golf Championship this weekend at the par 71 Clifton Springs Country Club. St. Lawrence University won the team title by five strokes over SUNY-Cortland 702-707.
Vassar (759), William Smith (797), Nazareth (820), and Elmira (inc.) rounded out the team standings.
Saints junior Meghan Clement (Berwick Academy/Rochester, N.H.) won medalist honors with a two-day total of 163, two strokes better than runner-up sophomore Jenna Chamberlain (Madrid-Waddington/Waddington, N.Y.) of Cortland.
For the host Herons, who are in their first varsity season, junior Valerie Dolan (Notre Dame Academy/Greenbush, Mass.) led the team. Dolan, who aced the 13th hole in the first round, finished with a two-day total of 190, tied for 12th place overall. William Smith senior Sarah Coffin (St. George’s Academy (R.I.)/Bryn Mawr, Pa.) was one stroke behind Dolan, tied for 14th place.
