Nazareth spoils Heron home opener

CLIFTON SPRINGS, N.Y.—The William Smith golf team, in its inaugural varsity season, lost its first home match to visiting Nazareth College this afternoon at the Clifton Springs Country Club. The Golden Flyers posted a team score of 200 against the Herons 211.

Senior Sarah Coffin (St. George’s School/Bryn Mawr, Pa.) led William Smith with a nine-hole score of 49, while sophomore Maureen Hannan (Christian Brothers Academy/Syracuse, N.Y.) was second for the Herons, carding a 51.

Nazareth senior Erica Spagnola (Vestal/Vestal, N.Y.) was the overall winner with a low round of 43.

William Smith returns to action at 4 p.m., on Sept. 27, when the Herons travel to Nazareth for a rematch.
