Baird collects Liberty League weekly award

GENEVA, N.Y.—William Smith College first-year goaltender Morgan Baird (Pingree School/Gloucester, Mass.) was named the Liberty League Women’s Lacrosse Co-Rookie of the Week this afternoon. Baird helped the Herons to a 1-1 weekend, making 14 saves and posting a 7.74 goals against average in just over 100 minutes of action
Making her first career start on Friday against Clarkson, Baird stopped three of the fourth shots she faced, allowing just one goal in 30 minutes of action. The following afternoon against St. Lawrence, she grabbed a season-high 11 saves, including three in overtime, in a heartbreaking 12-11 quadruple overtime loss to the Saints. Baird also picked up four ground balls on the weekend.
Starting the past two contests for the Herons, Baird is 1-1 for the year and sports a 6.42 goals against average and a .600 save percentage.
William Smith (2-2, 1-1 Liberty League) will be back in action on March 30, when the Cardinals from St. John Fisher visit McCooey Field for a 4 p.m., draw.
