GENEVA, N.Y.—William Smith College senior Kate Bickford (Lincoln School/Providence, R.I.) and sophomore Sarah Dillon (Blair Academy/Oldwick, N.J.) both netted five goals apiece to lead the 19th-ranked Heron lacrosse team to a 16-4 victory over visiting Denison University this afternoon in the annual Heron Draw.

William Smith jumped all over the Big Red, scoring the first three goals and 10 of the 11 in the first half. Sophomore Jessica Scott (Waynflete School/Portland, Maine) opened the scoring for the Herons just 1:05 into the contest, while junior Emily Tate (Freeport/Freeport, Maine) made it 2-0 with the first of her career-high two goals just 19 seconds later.

Bickford tallied the first of her three first-half goals less than two minutes later before Denison first-year Meg Wilcox (Quaker Valley/Sewickley, Pa.) fired home a free position shot to break into the scoring column for the Big Red. Wilcox finished the contest with a team-high three goals.

From that point on it was all Bickford and Dillon as they tallied five of the next seven goals, including three consecutive by Dillon in a span of 4:36, to put the Herons in front 10-1 at halftime.

Wilcox and first-year Quinn Simmons (Medina/Medina, Ohio) started the second session with a pair of goals to cut the lead to 10-3, but the first-half deficit was too much to overcome as the Herons cruised to the 16-4 win.

William Smith outshot the Big Red 45-16 and picked up 32 ground balls to Denison’s 22.

In goal, first-year Adele Hayward (Hyde School/Windchester, Mass.) made eight stops for the Herons, while Carolyn Hicks (Hawken School/Gates Mills, Ohio) collected 11 saves.

William Smith returns to action on April 8, traveling to Liberty League foe Skidmore College for a 4 p.m., contest.
