GENEVA, N.Y.—William Smith Lacrosse Head Coach Pat Genovese recently announced her coaching staff for the 2005 season. Last season’s part-time assistant coach, Sarah Queener, has been promoted to interim assistant coach, while Brighde Dougherty ’04 returns to her alma mater to fill the part-time assistant coaching position vacated by Queener.

Queener was a four-year letterwinner for the Yale University women’s lacrosse team. A 2003 North-South All-Star, the former Bulldog was named to the All-Ivy League teams twice and garnered third-team All-American accolades from the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association following her senior season. She helped lead Yale to the 2003 Ivy League Championship and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament, where the Bulldogs advanced to the quarterfinal round.

During her career, Queener scored 76 goals and assisted on 66 others in 64 games. Her 27 assists during her junior campaign ranks fifth on Yale’s single season list. A native of nearby Penn Yan, she is a candidate for a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from the New Haven, Conn., institution.

A 2004 second-team IWLCA/US Lacrosse All-American, Dougherty was second on the team in scoring with a career-high 50 points on 34 goals and 16 assists. She led the Herons with six game-winning goals and ranked third on the team in ground balls (51) and draw controls (26). Dougherty finished her career with 85 goals and 26 assists for 111 points.

During her four-year career, Dougherty helped the Herons to a 61-9 overall record (.871), including a 14-2 mark in the Liberty League (formerly the Upstate Collegiate Athletic Association). She and her teammates captured two Liberty League titles, three NCAA Tournament berths, including the 2003 appearance in the national semifinals, and the 2001 ECAC Mid-Atlantic Championship.

A native of Sea Girt, N.J., Dougherty graduated from William Smith with a bachelor’s degree in media and society.

The Herons return 17 players, including seven starters, from the 2004 squad that went 16-2, matching the school record for wins in a season. Following a pair of spring break games in Florida, William Smith opens the home portion of its 2005 schedule at 4 p.m., on March 25, against Clarkson.
