GENEVA, N.Y.—Seven student-athletes on the William Smith College lacrosse team were recently named to the 2006 Liberty League Women’s Lacrosse All-Academic team. Senior Jenn Davidson (South Burlington/South Burlington, Vt.), juniors Jane Erickson (Douglas County/Castle Rock, Colo.) and Hannah Wesley (Avon/Avon, Conn.), and sophomores Morgan Baird (Pingree School/Gloucester, Mass.), Sarah Davidson (South Burlington/South Burlington, Vt.), Louise Finnell (Princeton/Princeton, N.J.), and Rachel Stahl (Charles W. Baker/Baldwinsville, N.Y.) represented the Herons based on their academic and athletic excellence.

A starter on defense in all 16 games, Jenn Davidson is making her second appearance on the All-Academic team. The 2006 All-Liberty League second-team pick was fourth on the team in ground balls (33) and caused turnovers (11). On April 22, Davidson collected a season-high five ground balls at Vassar. A two-year starter, she collected 84 grounds balls, controlled 18 draws, and caused 29 turnovers in 48 career games.

Erickson, who saw action in 10 contests, earned her second consecutive spot on the All-Academic Team. The midfielder scooped up six ground balls on the season. Erickson won the 2006 Hazel Nettleship Hardy ’65 Award for contributing to the growth of William Smith Athletics and for being an excellent representative of William Smith students. As a Salisbury International Internship recipient, she will intern with the National University of Ireland’s Community Knowledge Initiative, coordinating research and creating opportunities in service learning this summer. She was an organizer of HWS Votes!, a campaign that registered 300 new voters for the 2004 presidential election. Erickson also is a Richard Abbe ’92 and Michael Gantcher ’92 Scholar.

An attacker, Wesley also is making her second appearance on the All-Academic team. A starter in six of 14 games, she registered six points on two goals and four assists, while gathering 11 grounds balls and three draws. Wesley registered a season-high two points, both helpers, in a 12-4 road victory at Clarkson. She has recorded seven points, 18 ground balls, and six draw controls in 26 career games.

In goal, Baird ranked second in the conference in save percentage (.551) and saves per game (10.19) and third in goals against average (8.70). The second-team All-Liberty League pick stopped a career-high 18 shots as the Herons rallied past Rochester, 13-9. In 25 collegiate contests, she has posted an 8.90 goals against average and a .539 save percentage.

A starter on defense in all 16 contests, Sarah Davidson led the team in ground balls (49), draws controlled (25), and caused turnovers (22). She also contributed to the offensive rush, registering seven points (5-2). The 2006 All-Liberty League first-team selection matched her season-high in ground balls (6) and caused turnovers (3) against Skidmore. Over the past two seasons, Davidson has logged nine points (6-3), 61 ground balls, 28 draws, and 30 caused turnovers.

Finnell, who played in nine games on attack, scored eight goals this season. In the Rochester game, she led the charge with her first career hat trick. In 23 career games, Finnell has registered 14 points (13-1), while gathering 11 ground balls.

A starter in the midfielder in all 16 games, Stahl was fourth on the team in goals (17) and fifth in points (23). She also collected 13 ground balls and 11 draws. Stahl turned in a season-high four-point effort (3-1) in the Herons’ win at Clarkson. A two-year starter, she leads her classmates with 37 points (26-11), while collecting 36 ground balls, 28 draws, and 12 caused turnovers in 31 career games.

To earn a place on the Liberty League All-Academic teams, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum 3.2 cumulative grade point average and be at least a sophomore academically.

William Smith completed the season with a 10-6 record. The Herons posted a 7-1 mark in the Liberty League, finishing atop the conference standings.
