Baird named Liberty League Defensive Performer of the Week

GENEVA, N.Y.—William Smith sophomore goalie Morgan Baird (Pingree School/Gloucester, Mass.) was named the Liberty League Women’s Lacrosse Defensive Performer of the Week this afternoon by the conference office. She posted a 2-0 record, a 7.62 goals against average, and 27 saves, stopping 62.8 percent of the shots she faced.

On April 11, she made a career-high 18 saves as the Herons beat Rochester 13-9. Three days later, Baird turned back nine shots to hand Hamilton its first Liberty League loss, 8-7 in overtime. She stopped five in the second half, including a pair of free position shots with the game tied late in regulation and one more in OT.

For the season, Baird has started all 11 games for William Smith, making 111 saves and sporting a 9.31 goals against average and a .534 save percentage.

William Smith (7-4) will play its final home game of the regular season on April 18, when the Nazareth Golden Flyers of the Empire 8 Conference visit McCooey Field. The opening draw is scheduled for 4 p.m.
