GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith College lacrosse team placed six student-athletes on the 2006 All-Liberty League Women’s Lacrosse Teams this afternoon in a vote by the conference coaches. Head Coach Pat Genovese and her staff headlined the postseason accolades, earning Coaching Staff of the Year.

Senior midfielder Jessica Tanner (Guilderland/Schenectady, N.Y.), junior midfielder Sarah Dillon (Blair Academy/Oldwick, N.J.), and sophomore defender Sarah Davidson (South Burlington/South Burlington, Vt.) represented the Herons on the first-team, while senior defender Jenn Davidson (South Burlington/South Burlington, Vt.), and sophomore goalie Morgan Baird (Pingree School/Gloucester, Mass.) earned second-team recognition. Junior midfielder Jessica Scott (Waynflete School/Portland, Maine) received honorable mention.

The only coach William Smith has ever known, Genovese ranks atop the Division III women’s lacrosse all-time wins list (328). She guided the Herons to a 10-5 overall record, including a 7-1 mark in the Liberty League. William Smith earned the top seed in the Liberty League Tournament for the third time in the past four seasons. She sports a career record of 328-118-1, including a winning percentage of .735. Genovese is assisted by Sarah Queener and Liz Harris ’05.

A three-year starter, Tanner is making her third straight appearance on the All-Liberty League teams. A two-time Liberty League Defensive Performer of the Week, she collected a season-high seven ground balls in a 15-5 victory over Denison. Equally as dangerous in the offensive zone, Tanner registered a season-high four points on four different occasions, most recently at Vassar on April 22. She leads the team in game-winning goals (3), and is second in points (27), ground balls (42), and draws controlled (16). In 57 career games, Tanner has posted 50 points (37-13), scooped up 147 ground balls, controlled 77 draws, and caused 58 turnovers.

Dillon, a two-year starter, is making her second consecutive appearance on the All-Liberty League teams. A prolific scorer, she leads the team in goals (35) and points (42). On April 7, Dillon tallied a season-high five goals to lift William Smith to a 12-11 overtime win over Union. She has registered at least one point in 31 consecutive games, including 25 multi-point performances. Dillon has recorded 93 points (77-16), collected 58 ground balls, controlled 41 draws, and caused 32 turnovers in 42 career games.

A two-year starter, Sarah Davidson is making her first appearance on the All-Liberty League team. A stifling defender, she leads the team in ground balls (49), draws controlled (24), and caused turnovers (22). On April 8, Davidson matched her season-high with six ground balls and three caused turnovers against Skidmore. Six days later, she netted the game-winning goal as the Herons defeated Hamilton 8-7 in overtime. In 29 career games, Davidson has logged eight points (5-3), gathered 61 ground balls, controlled 27 draws, and caused 30 turnovers.

Jenn Davidson, a two-year starter, is fourth on the team in ground balls (31) and caused turnovers (10). A shutdown defender, Davidson collected a season-high five ground balls at Vassar. She has scooped up 82 ground balls, won 18 draws, and caused 28 turnovers in 47 career contests.

In her first season as a starter, Baird anchored the second-ranked defense in the conference. She is ranked 16th in the nation in save percentage (.553), while sporting 152 saves and an 8.66 goals against average. Baird was named the ECAC Division III Defensive Player of the Week after stopping a career-high 18 shots in the Herons 13-9 win over Rochester on April 11. Baird has reached double digits in saves in nine of 15 contests. She has posted an 8.89 GAA and .539 save percentage in 24 career games.

Jessica Scott, a three-year starter, is fourth on the team in scoring with 25 points (15-10). On April 2, she registered a season-high four points (3-1) as William Smith defeated Denison in the finale of the annual Heron Draw. In 48 career games, Scott has registered 55 points (30-25), gathered 49 ground balls, controlled 51 draws, and caused 29 turnovers.

Ranked 20th in the nation, William Smith returns to action at 1:30 p.m. on May 5, when the Herons square off against Hamilton (11-4) in the semifinal round of the Liberty League Tournament.
