Tanner tabbed Co-Defensive Performer of the Week

GENEVA, N.Y.—William Smith College senior midfielder Jessica Tanner (Guilderland/Schenectady, N.Y.) was named the Liberty League Women’s Lacrosse Co-Defensive Performer of the Week by the conference office this afternoon for her stellar performances during the week ending April 3. She registered nine points and collected 12 ground balls as the Herons posted a 2-1 record.

On March 29, Tanner led William Smith to a 10-8 win at St. John Fisher with a season-high four points, scoring the Herons’ final three goals. She also scooped up four ground balls against the Cardinals. On April 1, Tanner produced another four-point effort (2-2) as William Smith’s upset bid of No. 3 SUNY Cortland fell short, 9-7. The following afternoon, she collected a season-high seven ground balls and recorded an assist in a 15-5 win over Denison.

Tanner is tied for the team lead in ground balls (17) and is third in assists (6).

William Smith (4-3, 2-0 Liberty) returns to action at 4 p.m. on April 7, when the Herons resume conference play against Union (5-2, 4-0). Fans can log onto the William Smith lacrosse Web site for real-time statistics.
