GENEVA, N.Y.—William Smith College senior midfielder Jessica Tanner (Guilderland/Schenectady, N.Y.) was named the Liberty League Women’s Lacrosse Co-Defensive Performer of the Week by the conference office this afternoon. She registered eight points and collected 12 ground balls as the Herons turned in a 2-1 mark.
On April 18, Tanner collected a pair of ground balls against No. 16 Nazareth. Three days later, she scored a season-high four goals as William Smith cruised past Rensselaer, 15-7. Tanner also collected five ground balls and controlled a pair of draws against the Red Hawks. The following afternoon, she matched her four-point (2-2) performance and gathered four ground balls as the Herons clinched the top seed in the Liberty League Tournament with a 13-9 victory at Vassar.
A starter in all 14 games, Tanner is second on the team in ground balls (42) and tied for second in draws controlled (15).
William Smith wraps up its regular season at 1 p.m. on April 29, when the Herons travel to Ithaca for a non-conference contest.
