GENEVA, N.Y.—The campus of Hobart and William Smith Colleges is the place to be this weekend for avid Division III women’s lacrosse fans. William Smith hosts No. 3 SUNY Cortland, No. 13 Colorado College, and Denison University in the annual Heron Draw on April 1-2 at McCooey Field.

William Smith (3-2) and Cortland State (5-0) renew their rivalry at 11 a.m., while Colorado College (6-3) and Denison (2-3) square off in the matinee at 1:30 p.m. The Red Dragons and the Tigers open the second day of action at 11 a.m., while the Herons and Big Red tangle in the finale at 2 p.m.

“The Heron Draw is arguably one of the most competitive early-season tournaments,” Head Coach Pat Genovese said. “It’s a plus for all teams participating to have region and out-of-region games.”

Riding the momentum of a three-game winning streak, William Smith’s well-balanced offense features a quintet of student-athletes with at least seven points. Paced by Sarah Dillon’s (Blair Academy/Oldwick, N.J.) team-leading 14 points (11-3), the Herons have outscored their opposition 35-19 over the past three games. Speaking of streaks, Dillon has found the back of the net in 21 consecutive matches.

The leadership of senior defenders Jessica Tanner (Guilderland/Schenectady, N.Y.) and Jenn Davidson (South Burlington/South Burlington, Vt.) provide William Smith with the ability to shut down the opposition, while sophomore Sarah Davidson (South Burlington/South Burlington, Vt.) and first-year Torie Allen (Governor Drummer Academy/Dedham, Mass.) rank first (14) and third (11), respectively, on the team in ground balls.

In goal, sophomore Morgan Baird (Pingree School/Gloucester, Mass.) has looked sharp in the past three games, recording a goals against average of 5.33 and a save percentage of .612.

WEOS-FM (89.7/90.3 in Geneva, 88.1 in Ithaca) will broadcast William Smith’s entire run through the Heron Draw. Fans outside the listening area can log onto the William Smith lacrosse Web site for live coverage of the weekend’s action, including streaming audio and real-time statistics.
