GENEVA, N.Y.—Two William Smith College student-athletes were named to the 2007 Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Academic Honor Roll. Recent graduate Jane Erickson (Douglas County/Castle Rock, Colo.) and rising senior Rachel Stahl (C.W. Baker/Baldwinsville, N.Y.) were among the nation’s top performers in the classroom and on the lacrosse field.
Erickson was a four-year member of the lacrosse team. She broke into the team’s starting lineup this season after switching from attack to defense. Erickson started 12 games this season, recording 16 ground balls, six caused turnovers, and an assist.
A Fulbright Assistantship recipient, Erickson graduated in May with a bachelor’s degree in political science and public policy. She is a three-time Liberty League All-Academic selection and received William Smith’s 2007 Evaleen C. Harrison ’19 Scholar-Athlete Award.
Stahl, a midfielder, finished the year tied for second on the team in assists (11) and third in goals (23) and points (34). She registered a season-high six points on five goals and an assist in the Herons’ season-opening win over then No. 11 Dickinson. The outburst earned her the Liberty League Offensive Performer of the Week award. Stahl enters her senior season with 49 career goals, 22 assists, 55 ground balls, 56 draw controls, and 17 caused turnovers.
The two-time Liberty League All-Academic pick is a biology major.
To earn a spot on the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum 3.2 cumulative grade point average and be at least a junior academically. Teams are limited to two honorees unless all nominated student-athletes have a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
William Smith finished the 2007 season with a 10-6 overall record, including a 6-2 mark in the Liberty League. The campaign marks the 25th winning season for the Herons since 1982.
